Tourism, 2 million euros for road improvement in the Velipoja area

The tourist roads in the Velipoja area will undergo construction and improvement. The Albanian Development Fund announced in the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development system that the winning company for the project in question had already been announced with a contract worth over 2 million euros.

The winner was announced as the merger of companies, one from Kosovo and the other from Albania, KNPSH. PAPENBURG & ADRIANI COMPANY SH.PK. and ALBTIEFBAU SH.PK.

Referring to previously published details for the contract "Construction and improvement of road infrastructure in the tourist area of ??Velipoja", it is envisaged that the project will be developed as a continuation of the project for the new bridge over the Buna River in the Albania-Montenegro border area.

This project envisages connecting the bridge over the Buna River with the Shkodër–Velipoja National Road. The project includes the border coastal area that extends from the start of the northern coastal part to the Buna/Bojana river delta in the Adriatic Sea. This area includes well-known tourist destinations such as Shëngjini and Velipoja, specifically with several beaches such as Rana e Hedhun, Rrjolli, with lagoons, islands, hills, natural parks, rivers.

The existing road, on which the new road route will be built, is a rural road that connects the area around the village of Pulaj with Velipoja, connecting to the Shkodër–Velipoja road. The existing road has an asphalt width of 3.5–4.0 meters and unpaved shoulders on both sides, with variable widths.

This project is part of the program that has been implemented for several years now with a focus on infrastructure and tourism, which is financed by the European Union through technical assistance and investment grants in a total amount of 40 million euros, as well as from the complementary sovereign loan provided by the EBRD to the government of Albania./ Monitor Magazine
