The fall of the euro has reduced the wealth of Albanians in banks by 3%. More than half of the deposits in the Albanian banking sector are dominated by the euro currency.

If at the beginning of this year the savings in euros were worth 68 billion ALL, today they are worth 66 billion ALL, 2 billion less.

For the economy expert Eduart Gjokutaj, the changes in the exchange rate will hit Albanians who have income and bank accounts in euros and payments in the national currency more.

“Depozituesit do të jenë kategoria më e prekur nga zhvlerësimi i euros, kjo dhe për shkak të specifikave që ka ekonomia shqiptare, që dominojnë depozitat në euro. E mira do të jetë që nëse të ardhurat dhe shpenzimet janë në lekë, edhe llogaritë bankare të mbahen në të njëjtën monedhë”, tha ai per Euronews Albania.

Ekspertët thonë se një euro më e lirë nuk pritet të ketë zbutje të inflacionit të lartë për mallrat e konsumit, edhe pse shumica e importeve janë me vendet e eurozonës.

Importuesit e naftës dhe të ushqimeve mbajnë një kurs të tyre gjatë konvertimit dhe hartimit të kostove, për t’u mbrojtur nga luhatjet e tregut.

"Both importers and exporters take measures to protect themselves from the exchange rate and keep a fixed unit of their own. Inflation will not be mitigated as long as the Russia-Ukraine conflict lasts and the situation of the global economy will continue to be tense", according to him.

A small group that will benefit from the fall of the euro are tourists who will travel to countries where this currency is used.

"It is a small group of tourists who go to the countries of the eurozone, since most Albanians go to Turkey or countries that do not have this currency", said Gjikutaj

During the last week, the US dollar surpassed the euro in the international foreign exchange market, while in the local exchange rate, the European currency has reached the lowest historical level of 117.2 ALL and the dollar costs 116.7 ALL. /CNA.al
