How our transport costs are increasing due to expensive oil and toll roads

In the 2025 draft budget, it is planned to finance about 8.8 billion (88 million euros) for Corridor VII, the most important road node in the country.
Financing for 14 lots of Corridor VIII occupies 26.6 percent of the internal funds for road transport programmed for the coming year.
8 lots of works will be financed for the expansion of Elbasan - Qafë Thane, costing 3.4 billion lek next year, about 34 million euros.
While 6 other lots are financed for the construction of segments leading from Durrës, Elbasan - Papër and Papër - Ura e Grykshi with 5.4 billion Lek financing. The full value of these 6 lots is 15 billion ALL or 150 million euros in a length of about 35 km.
Corridor VIII extends approximately 154 kilometers in Albanian territory. Full costs have not yet been calculated, due to the track change in the last segment. As the first segment of Corridor-8, it will be the By Pass of Tirana, which will simultaneously break up both Corridor 10 and Corridor 8. For this axis, the feasibility study has been carried out and it has not been tendered yet.
The next axis of Corridor-8 is the Tirana - Elbasan road, which has already been completed, while the construction of the Fier and Vlora By-passes, which help east-west traffic, have been completed.
In the Albanian part, the exit point in Macedonia of Corridor 8 will be the Bushtrica bridge in Përenjas to avoid the height created by the exit in Qafë-Thane.
Currently, the Elbasan Bypass segment that goes to Labinot-Fushë is being worked on and is being financed by the state budget.
The current ring road of the city of Elbasan does not have the necessary parameters to cope with the growing traffic of this international corridor. The project is supposed to start from the end of the Tirana-Elbasan highway and end at the exit of the city in Labinot-Fushë.
Further from Labinot - Fushë towards Prerenjas, 5.8 kilometers have been tendered and are being financed.
Further, Corridor 8 in the Albanian part continues with two more lots to the border with Macedonia. From Elbasan to Përrenjas, Corridor 8 will pass on a completely new route, which will stretch along the Shkumbin river, avoiding the works on the mountain.
Developments in the road infrastructure of Corridor 8 are a bit chaotic, since the project has only been included in the main European network for a while, and the countries that are included in this axis are building with different standards. In the Macedonian part Corridor 8 has 6 lanes, while in the Albanian part it has 4 lanes./ Monitor Magazine
