Real estate prices in the country have increased by 60% in 10 years. The rate is higher than in the European Union, where the increase is 45%.

In 2013, an apartment in Tirana cost 62 thousand euros, while today its price has reached 100 thousand euros. Its value has increased by about 60% in a decade, while construction has become the main sector of economic growth in the country. The data is illustrated according to the ``Fischer Index'' of the Bank of Albania, one of the official indicators that measure the progress of housing prices in the capital and in the districts.

Properties account for about 80% of the wealth of Albanian families.

They are the most secure financial source for them, if we add the fact that 65% of wealth is represented by the main dwelling, and over 90% of families own the dwelling where they live.

The increase in prices during the last years has been significant in the vast part of the country, especially in the central part and on the coast.

Meanwhile, Eurostat has measured the change in the price of real estate in the countries of the European Union. In a decade, throughout the euro area prices have increased by 45%. In countries like Hungary, Estonia and Luxembourg, the value has increased by over 130%, while there are only 3 countries where prices have depreciated, Italy, Greece and Cyprus./euronews
