Albanians are consuming less since the start of the price crisis. The data provided by Euronews Albania show that the imports of goods in volume for the first 5 months of this year have decreased by 122,217 tons compared to the previous year.

Imports started to decrease in March, the period when prices experienced the highest increase, a trend which continued in April and May.

For these 3 months, purchases of goods abroad are 153,834 tons less than a year ago.

During May, Albanians also reduced food purchases.

Imports for this category have decreased at an annual rate of 2%, or 1531 tons less.

INSTAT has also published a 15.5% increase in gross fixed capital formation, which expresses the progress of business investments, but imports of machinery and equipment for the first quarter of the year decreased by 5.6%.

The only branch with growth in foreign trade is fashion, where imports of this sector increased by 700 tons.

Faced with these data, INSTAT published an economic growth close to 6%, 2 days ago, influenced by construction, where imports for this industry have increased by 8%, from the increase in consumption, when imports in quantity have decreased, business investments have been reduced and government public investments are 40% less than a year ago.
