The Bank of Albania has left the basic interest rate for the lek unchanged at 2.75.

This was confirmed by the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, through a statement to the media, where he spoke about the monetary policy decision-making for the month of December 2024

"The Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania decided:

· keep the basic interest rate unchanged, at the level of 2.75%;

· keep the one-day deposit interest rate unchanged at 1.75%;

· keep the one-day loan interest rate unchanged at 3.75%.

The Supervisory Council considers that the current monetary conditions are suitable for the return of inflation to the target during the next year, and provide a good premise for respecting inflation in the medium term horizon.

The Supervisory Board notes that the overall balance of medium-term pressures is gradually moving towards our medium-term inflation objective. In this context, he emphasizes that future monetary policy decisions will continue to be conditioned by new information, and in particular by analyzes and assessments of the progress of internal inflationary pressures. These decisions will always be in accordance with our objective of price stability, as well as consistent with the direction of the fiscal policy and the performance of the exchange rate", he said.

Sejko said that the economy is in a positive environment, inflation has fallen, while employment has increased. He stated that this trend is expected to improve in the future./ CNA
