Accidents in January decreased by 23.2%, problematic age group 25-34 years old

Accidents have decreased in the first month of the year, registering a total of 96. Official data published by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) shows that at least 149 people were involved in these accidents.

"In January 2026, 96 road accidents were recorded, in which 149 people were injured (killed and injured). In January 2026, the number of road accidents decreased by 23.2%, compared to the same period a year earlier," the publication states.

Meanwhile, processed data shows that the cause of accidents continues to be the behavior of drivers in most cases, while the most problematic drivers remain those in the 25-34 age group.

"During January 2026, 85.4% of road accidents occurred as a result of driver behavior. The 25–34 age group represented the highest number of accidents, accounting for 31.3% of the total number of accidents recorded in this period. The highest number of road accidents, by day of the week, was recorded on Friday with 21.9%, while the lowest number was recorded on Tuesday with 6.3%.

"The highest number of road accidents was recorded during the time period 19:00–24:00, constituting 24.0% of the total number of road accidents," the INSTAT publication states./ Monitor
