Over 22 thousand euros of olive grove/ How it passed into the hands of Mirlinda

A real estate property in the Sauk area, Tirana, with a surface area of ??1,500 m² and registered as an olive grove, has been seized as part of the investigations against former director of the Albanian National Agency for the Protection of the Environment, Mirlinda Karçanaj.

According to data from the file provided by CNA, property no. 125/211, registered in ZK 3266, Volume 24, Page 229, was initially acquired by Gjenovefa Karçanaj, the mother of the investigator, through a sale and purchase contract dated September 28, 2020.

The transaction, worth 2,250,000 new lek, was carried out at a notary's office, while payment was expected to be made through the notary's account.

Subsequently, the property passed into the ownership of Mirlinda Karçanaj through legal inheritance.

This immovable property was initially acquired by citizen Gjenovefa Karçanaj (mother of the investigator Mirlinda Karçanaj) through the sales contract with no. 2922/1147 rep/kol dated 28.09.2020, held at the Margena Çela notary office with the seller citizen Olta Xhabrahimi, in the amount of 2 250 000 ALL, which was to be liquidated through the notary's account. This property was subsequently transferred to the ownership of the investigator Mirlinda Karçanaj through the opening of legal inheritance.

"This property should be seized as it results in the same extent as the proceeds of the criminal offense obtained from the criminal offense of passive corruption of the investigator Mirlinda Karçanaj," the file obtained by CNA states.

Authorities suspect that this wealth is directly related to illicit profits from criminal corruption activity, for which Karçanaj is being investigated.

For this reason, the imposition of a seizure measure has been requested, considering the property as the proceeds of a criminal offense.

Investigations are ongoing to verify the full source of the wealth and its connection to suspected criminal activity./ CNA
