Jamarbër Malltezi, on World Environment Day, visited the garbage dump in Elbasan. Malltezi says that this mountain of garbage is often burned and pollutes the entire air of Elbasan.

He emphasizes that this waste decomposes and pollutes groundwater and Shkumbini. Among other things, he states that there is plundering of river sediments in the riverbed, which has caused erosion of the banks and agricultural lands.

On World Environment Day, we came to the area that best illustrates what is wrong in Albania. The mountain of illegally deposited garbage often burns and pollutes the air of the entire Elbasan.

The waste decomposes and pollutes the groundwater and Shkumbin, which has turned brown due to the lack of treatment of the wastewater of the 4 cities and industrial pollution from Lucca to the substandard industries located at the former metallurgical plant.

But on the riverbed, we have criminal plundering of river inerts that have caused erosion of the banks and agricultural lands, where hundreds of m3 of soil end up in the river every day and dozens of hectares of farmland are being destroyed every year for a few million more for 2-3 companies that "cough" at Edi Rama and Taulant Balla.

The citizens of Elbasan are exposed to pollution and risk cancer unless Edi and Taulant take out the bags every month. /CNA
