The former mayor of Durrës Municipality, Vangjush Dako, has surrendered after the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime issued arrest warrants against him and former Durrës municipality officials.
CNA has discovered that it all started after the tragic earthquake of November 26, 2019.
The Construction Institute, which assesses the safety of buildings, decided that a building in Durrës should be demolished, but this decision was opposed by residents.
They filed a lawsuit in SPAK against the Construction Institute, and the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime started investigations.
SPAK investigated the Municipality of Durrës regarding the construction permit for this building and issued 10 arrest warrants for abuse of office for Vangjush Dako and other former officials.
This led to the arrest of Dako and former officials.
Meanwhile, SPAK has not yet come out with an official announcement about the issued arrest warrants. It is expected that SPAK will provide more details about the arrest of former officials and Dako./ CNA.al
