The Prosecutor General, Olsian Çela criticized the institutions today, as he published in the Assembly the summary report of the annual report for 2022.

Çela said that economic crime is one of the priority areas, but the results are not where they should be.

He said that specialized institutions in the field of economic crime have not done enough work and should be more engaged.

"As for economic crime, it was a situation created a few months ago, which ended. It was a situation for a while. Economic crime is one of the priority areas, but the results are not where they should be, more can be done. And it is not only judicial police services that can play a role here. Much wider than that, the tax authorities, customs, etc. have a very big role. We have not seen this commitment, we have a decrease in cases with crimes in the field of taxes, referrals, there is a decrease in cases which is not a positive figure.

We all agree that much more can be done in this regard. Our structures are dedicated. We have, let's say, the people who have been engaged. Cooperation with the police has been positive, quite good, we have found a common language. But this is not enough. There is a need for a much bigger job also from specialized institutions and let's say that the prosecutor comes at the end of the process when it comes to crimes in the tax field, to economic crime", he emphasized./ CNA.al
