On Monday, July 1, the great writer Ismail Kadare passed away at the age of 88.

He was in his apartment in Tirana, when he suddenly passed away after a cardiac arrest. Emergency doctors, called by his family, could not do anything.

Kadare is considered one of the colossi of Albanian literature, known internationally. 

He has written dozens of novels, poems and essays.
