Since his arrest, 15 months ago, on February 10, 2025, the mayor of Tirana, arrested on 13 charges for 5 serious criminal offenses, has ordered and directed a media attack campaign against the judiciary and prosecutors.

During this time, CNA has identified articles in international media such as "The Economist", "Jerusalem Post", "EU Reporter", European Business Magazine", "Europrospects", written by third parties that raise suspicions of paid or anonymous articles that have in common the Veliaj case and the attack on justice.

Publications of such articles, which cast a pall over detention in Albania and are specifically directed at Veliaj, are repeated in Albania, but also beyond its borders, whenever Veliaj has an important court hearing.

Recently, "Brussels Morning" published an article by Martin Banks that contains a defensive narrative against Veliaj, this time focusing on the trial in the Administrative Court.
