Surgeon accused of sexual harassment/Lawyer: Repeated case over the years

A 21-year-old woman reported a surgeon at Korça Hospital for sexual harassment two days ago, while her lawyer, Refxhei Tola, states that other complaints have been received against the same person dating back 33 years.

According to her, these are repeated cases of abuse against girls and women, while the most recent case was reported only a year ago. In a public statement, Tola said that the law firm representing the victim is also handling other reports, which are expected to be filed with the justice authorities.

She raised concerns about how a doctor accused of such behavior has continued to practice for such a long period in the hospital system.

"It is a repeated case. How could a doctor integrate and stay in the hospital system for such a long time, providing services to different individuals? It is a very sensitive issue. I appreciate the girl who reported it. Justice must react so that maniacs and abusers no longer encroach on the lives of our children."

The lawyer also stated that so far they have not received any information from the prosecution regarding the investigative file, although they have been officially authorized to protect the girl. According to her, requests for information have been officially sent and a response is expected before a security measure is issued against the doctor.

"Today we have been authorized by power of attorney to be the girl's defense attorneys and have not yet received the necessary information from the prosecution. However, we are addressing all official requests in writing and by email to obtain the information before granting the security measure."

According to Tola, work is underway to collect evidence that will prove that this is a repeated case and not an isolated episode. She added that the responsibility lies not only with the accused doctor, but also with the hospital structure, which according to her has not undertaken any administrative investigation.

"We want to prove that this is a repeated case. The problem lies not only with the doctor, but also with the hospital structure that has not taken steps to remove him from that workplace, even though there were sufficient indications."

In conclusion, the lawyer called on women and girls who claim to have been abused to report the cases, guaranteeing complete anonymity.

"It's time to speak up. I call on all women and girls who have felt abused to report it. We guarantee complete anonymity. This phenomenon happens routinely and can no longer be tolerated."
