On Monday, the new academic year 2023-2024 began, where about 20 thousand students sat for the first time in university auditoriums across the country.

In the national ranking, the University of Tirana remains first, but according to the "Times Higher Education World University Rankings", in the international ranking, the University of Tirana was at the bottom of the ranking. 

Regarding this ranking, Artan Hoxha, the rector of the University of Tirana, in a ceremony for the start of the academic year, said that we are dealing with a ranking in the process and that the final results of which will be published in 2024.

"As for one of the ranking sites that is under discussion, it is a ranking in the process because the results will be released in 2024, some of the verification criteria are not met and the results will be released in 2024," said Hoxha. 

As for the Minister of Education, Ogerta Manastirliu, the ranking is an indication that the transformation of universities must continue.

"We must continue the transformation of universities. We must improve scientific research. In 2024, we will make a new model with new criteria, adapting the best national models such as scientific research not being a part related to lecturers and academics, but also to students, and their inclusion should also be scored", said Manastirliu.
