Albania-Greece tensions/ Meta "points the finger" at the government

The head of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, in an interview given to the Turkish media, spoke about maritime borders and requests for compensation for the rights of Albanians who were violated in the past.

Asked about his opinion about the tensions between the two neighboring countries, Meta pointed the finger at the Meta government, saying that during his time as President he was interested in maritime border issues and advised the government to act in accordance with the Constitution and lack transparency. but the government did nothing.

"What is particularly sad is that issues that are actually of different origin and nature are labeled as 'tensions between countries.' Let me clarify.

As President, I have been interested in the maritime border issue for a very long time. I advised the current Government to act transparently in accordance with the Constitution, legal procedures, laws and the public.

The government did none of this. Moreover, by taking this issue to the International Court, which was the subject of bilateral talks with Greece, I think it complicated the situation even more than it was.

Regarding the issue of the Cham Albanians. This problem stems from history, specifically World War II.

I think we have all the possibilities and means to solve this issue once and for all. I believe that our interests and the potential of cooperation with Greece are greater than insisting on leaving the issue unresolved", said Meta./ CNA
