SPAK sends 21 defendants for trial for criminal organization, international drug

The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime has completed the investigations and has sent for trial to the Special Court of First Instance the request for the trial of criminal proceedings no. 193 of 2023, against 21 defendants accused of a series of serious criminal offenses, committed within the framework of a criminal organization and a structured criminal group.

The defendants are:

Investigations conducted by investigators of the National Bureau of Investigation and led by special prosecutors have identified an organized criminal structure with activities in the territory of the Republic of Albania and abroad, suspected of involvement in attempted murder, international trafficking of narcotics, such as cocaine, as well as cases of active and passive corruption in the justice system and the private sector.

The events under investigation include episodes that occurred in Elbasan as well as cases of international drug trafficking in Ecuador, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

Various security measures have been applied to the defendants, based on the Criminal Procedure Code./ CNA
