Journalist Mentor Kikia has shared a concern regarding the incident following the collapse of the bridge on the Librazhd-Prrenjas axis.

Through a post on social media, Kikia states that the work carried out about 25 years ago has remained the same and no maintenance work has been carried out in this entire period.

According to the journalist, in addition to the environmental damage caused to the waters of Shkumbini, such damage is also associated with financial costs, which must be paid by Albanian citizens.

"Why is the Librazhd - Qafë Thanë road collapsing?"

The Elbasan – Qafë Thanë road has been one of the axes with the highest safety and quality standards, built about 25 years ago by a Macedonian company. During all this time, not a single hole in the asphalt had appeared, even though there has been no maintenance so far.

The anomalies created on this axis during the last months should be sought in the company that is building the new road, Corridor 8. This company has committed what can be called an environmental massacre on the Shkumbi River and its entire valley. From Rrogozhina to the area where the bridge is collapsing, the road is being built with gravel taken from the riverbed, completely destroying its bed.

Moreover, no stream has been left uneroded to take in the aggregates. A simple question arises: should river gravel with rounded, smooth stones be used for the roadbed? Let the engineers provide the answer.

"However, the collapses of the existing road occur exactly where the new route is being built. Every damage has a financial bill, which we should not pay," Kikia writes./CNA
