Scandal-Rama appointed Beqaj, Albania remains without a chief negotiator with
Ilir Beqaj and Edi Rama

A few weeks ago, Prime Minister Edi Rama appointed the former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, to head Albania's negotiating group with the EU.

This action of Rama came after the investigations that SPAK was conducting regarding the sterilization concession affair, where Beqaj was implicated and where former deputy minister Rrjepaj and businessman Rrapaj were arrested.

The decision was taken after several changes in the leadership of the composition of the negotiating group for the negotiations of Albania's accession to the European Union, as Romina Kuko, deputy minister of the interior, was replaced by Beqaj.

But the scandal continues.

Today, Albania has been left without a chief negotiator with the EU, as the SPAK imposed on the former minister Beqaj the measure of the obligation to appear and the ban on leaving the country.

At the request of SPAK, GJKKO has banned trips abroad, which means that Ilir Beqaj will not be able to lead the negotiations with the EU and in EU institutions or in Albania, or go to international institutions.

According to the notice given by the Special Prosecutor's Office, former minister Beqaj is suspected of having misused his office.

SPAK orders Beqaj to appear before the judicial police of the National Bureau of Investigation, once a week, on Fridays, at 3:30 p.m.

It also prohibits him from leaving the territory of the Republic of Albania without the authorization of the court.

Also, the former minister was banned from using his passport and other valid identification means for going abroad.

The decision to set the amount of personal insurance was executed by the National Bureau of Investigation and the General Directorate of the State Police on 17.11.2023./ CNA
