Details from the minutes read at the second session on the merits at the Special Court shed light on another case among the many scandals of the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj.
Official documents refute previous claims by Veliaj and former Socialist Party MP Plarent Ndreca, who became his lawyer, that SPAK documents were handed to him without a record and that police officers were arrogant towards him.
The two prosecutors of the Special Prosecution Office, Altin Dumani and Ols Dado, read during the session the minutes that were taken when officers of the National Bureau of Investigation and the General Directorate of Prisons went to deliver the documents to Erion Veliaj in prison.
The minutes recorded an event that was both incredible and expected for a mayor surrounded by scandals, such as Erion Veliaj. This time it was learned that when the BKH officers went to hand over the SPAK documents to Veliaj in custody, the latter not only refused to accept the materials, but also returned them with threatening and insulting language, especially towards one of the officers, Samet Gurgur.
Veliaj threatened Gurguri with the words "I will not forgive you and the prosecutors," while this is not the first case of threats against the officer.
"The minutes clearly state it. In compliance with the order, they went to the Durrës Penitentiary and contacted Erion Veliaj. From the beginning, Erion Veliaj displayed opposing and even insulting behavior towards the BKH investigators. It was an unethical and insulting reaction, refusing to receive the documents. Under these conditions, he left and informed the entire prison chain, from the lawyers to the managers. They all went together to explain the reason to Erion Veliaj. He was opposed and Veliaj addressed him with the words "My wife had an abortion twice. You destroyed me. Ols Dado has 30 apartments. This scum, I will not forgive the abortion of my two children." Afterwards, Samet Gurguri and the lawyers of the Penitentiary placed the documents and documents in a room for detention," said prosecutor Ols Dado as he read the minutes.
This behavior is not an impulsive reaction, but part of Veliaj's "normality", which comes at a time when his lawyers had been administering the evidence and investigation acts for at least 7 months.
Erion Veliaj's reaction seems like an attempt to act as if he is still in the mayor's office, while he has been in the cells of Durres Prison for more than a year.
Veliaj openly threatens and insults, claiming that power and political status can put him above the law, perhaps forgetting that he is facing 13 charges for 5 serious criminal offenses, while he aims to evade justice through repeated tactics, lobbying, paid articles and his captured media, even though he is convinced that he will be convicted. /CNA
