NASA satellite tracks fires in real time/ The entire Mediterranean is on fire

From Greece to Spain and from the coast of southern France to Cyprus, NASA's satellite system is detecting and recording active fire fronts across the Mediterranean basin in real time.

In each satellite image, red dots mark the places where fires are breaking out, whether they are small fires or large, rapidly spreading fire fronts.

The images provided correspond to fires that are currently active, those over the past 24 hours, and those over the past seven days, respectively. The latter is particularly important as last week was one of the hottest of the summer, with the Balkans and Italy experiencing a prolonged heatwave. The vast majority of these red dots indicate forest fires.

Some dots also represent human activities, such as factories or fires lit by farmers in their fields, as well as the war fronts in Ukraine.
