DP MP Belind Këlliçi spoke about the referendum being held today for the leader of the Democratic Party.

Këlliçi stated that this referendum came about because none of the candidates who expressed ambition to run for this position met the criteria to be part of the race.

He said that such a process, a referendum for the election of the president, has also been applied by the largest European political group, the EPP, in their last two elections.

"We have a body called KOKOE, and because the candidacies did not meet the conditions and criteria, it was decided that Berisha would be part of this referendum. There is a political force that knows the notion of elections. This referendum is good news for the citizens and bad news for the majority.

"In all the regional centers except Tirana, every mayor is new and it means that there was a competition, there was a change. The DP is the only political force that holds elections in Albania, and that is how the party in government should be. Anyone who is surprised today just needs to take into account the PPE that has this standard and this format that it has applied in the last two elections ," said the MP.

Këlliçi also spoke about the holding of the National Assembly, adding that by June 10, the DP will be complete at all its leadership levels.

According to the MP, this will bring a concrete alternative for citizens. Among other things, he announced that the next protest will be announced in the first week of June.

"This is a process with phases and stages. Today the election for the leader of the Democratic Party closes. On May 30, the National Assembly will be held at the Palace of Congresses, where the main topic will be the renewal and opening of the Democratic Party. It will be important for determining the fate of the opposition for another 4 years.

Then the elections for the high leadership forums of the DP will be held. By June 10, we will have a unified DP at all its leadership levels and we will have a concrete alternative for the citizens. We will have our political offer and vision for the next 4 years. Within the first week of June, we will have the announcement of the next protest.

The DP will return to protests to achieve a technical government. If it were not for the DP and its fight with 8 resolutions for the farce, we would not have this IBAR report. One of the conditions for concluding negotiations is elections. The DP must lead this action to achieve early elections.
