Hundreds of believers celebrate Easter in Gjirokastra

Orthodox believers in Gjirokastra celebrated the Resurrection of Christ yesterday evening.

Hundreds of believers have gathered in the Cathedral, congratulating each other: "Christ is Risen."

The church bell rang loudly at the moment when the hands of the clock marked the arrival of a new day and symbolically the Resurrection of Christ.

The mass, organized by local Orthodox clergy in the outdoor spaces of the Cathedral, was attended by numerous believers who rushed to light candles as a sign of good luck for the revival of a new era.

Orthodox Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after the beginning of spring, or the first Sunday after the first full moon of the month.
