Great anticipation for Easter/ Believers prayed for the Holy Flame

Orthodox Christians from around the world packed Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the Old City on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the Holy Light ceremony, before the holy flame is transported to Orthodox Christian sites to mark Easter.

Cheers and prayers erupted during the millennium celebration, symbolizing the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as candles were lit one by one after reaching through a small opening in His tomb. Soon the dim room was lit by a constellation of flames held in hand, as part of the Orthodox Easter week ritual in Jerusalem.

The Holy Light or Holy Fire is described by many Orthodox Christian believers as a miracle that occurs annually in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem on Holy Saturday, or Maundy Saturday, the day before Orthodox Easter.

From that blue light, according to Orthodox belief, the candles he carries are lit with the Holy Fire of the Resurrection. The candlelight is then transferred to the faithful inside and outside the church. /CNA
