The National Traffic Monitoring Center in Kamëz, a long-awaited innovation for road safety and beyond, is now a reality, where a series of projects and teams are coordinated, and where everything will be interconnected with the Digital Revolution project "SmartCity", guaranteeing 24/7 monitoring of all roads and coordination of the Traffic Police, the National Medical Emergency, and Civil Emergencies.
Prime Minister Rama visited today the premises of the new Center, together with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku, where a new chapter in the history of territorial administration and assistance to citizens at all levels begins, also with the signing of memorandums of cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Health/Civil Emergencies.
The center will operate with 122 operators, where in this initial phase of monitoring, the first 200 km have been connected to cameras, which cover the main highways Tirana-Durrës, Durrës-Rrogozhinë, Rrogozhinë-Fier, Fier-Vlorë, and where the final goal is to cover 3650 km that are assets of the inventory of the Albanian Road Authority.
"We are now ready for the entire start of operations. Today, let's say, is the first day of field testing, as well as the signing of memorandums of cooperation between all teams, which will be operational within the National Traffic Monitoring Center. This is the biggest innovation that we bring to the road structure, but of course, as we have said, it should be mentioned that it will be an important contribution, also to national security. And what is more important, a series of projects are coordinated here, a series of teams are coordinated and you have repeated several times that everything we have here today will also be connected to Smart City, that is, with the large program that we are implementing and will connect the Albanian road network with the rest of the monitoring within the cities. We have 74 out of 122 employees located inside this building. 74 are located here, who are the monitoring operators, and 55 are located in the highway centers, where toll traffic will also begin. Meanwhile, we also have 26 state police operators here.” – explained Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku, who informed that “The first 200 kilometers are connected to cameras, which are part of the first phase of monitoring. The first 200 kilometers have covered the main highways of the country, namely Tirana - Durrës, Durrës -Rrogozhinë, Rrogozhinë - Fier, Fier-Vlorë and all other axes, which are the main axes, to then continue with the second phase, and our goal is for us to cover 3650 kilometers in the final phase, which are assets of the Albanian road inventory authority.” – she said.
Deputy Prime Minister Balluku explained, among other things, that:
"The existence of the Center will mean that there will be less and less need for a physical presence on the ground to monitor highways, and the intervention will be done due to the coordination that occurs within this room. So, the traffic police units will be notified from the room to intervene in cases when we have high-speed vehicles, while everything is managed from here. The four units located here are the Albanian Road Authority, the Road Police, the Civil Emergency, and the National Emergency."
For his part, Prime Minister Rama said that with the establishment of this Center, a new chapter begins in the history of territorial administration and assistance to citizens at all levels.
"Today a new chapter begins in the history of territorial administration, and in the history of assistance to citizens at all levels. At the level of road safety, at the level of medical emergencies, at the level of civil emergencies, and it is a great obligation that we will accompany with a reform, where all emergencies and all calls and all these directions are unified. This is what we need, while this entire modern monitoring center will be supported by the Smart City system with the network of intelligent cameras and artificial intelligence that will make it possible to collect all information in real time at every meter, not every kilometer, for all types of programs and finally to remove the police from ambushes on the road. But it must be ready at any moment to be set in motion by the signaling of this virtual inspector." - he said. / CNA
