A new draft law will be proposed by the government on the reorganization of the scientific system, where the establishment of a new ministry is suggested.

This ministry will be responsible for science and scientific research.

The Minister of Science will have the task of drafting the strategy in this sector as well as defining the priority areas of scientific research.

Also, according to the draft prepared by the socialists, a National Council for science and scientific research will be created.

This council will consist of 7 ministers from different fields, 4 representatives of higher education institutions, the president of the Academy of Sciences and representatives of Innovation Agencies.

In total, the council will have 19 members and will be headed by the prime minister.

Another proposal is the transfer of research and writing competences from higher education institutions to the new ministry, the Academy of Sciences and the scientific council.

The new minister will be given the power to create special institutions for scientific research and to suspend or close them, when non-fulfillment of the criteria is noticed by the monitoring.

In addition, the national register of scientific institutions and researchers will be created within two years from the approval of the law./ CNA
