Podcast "Different, but together"/ Psychology Speaks: Prejudices

Psychologist Armina Velçani shared today her experience working with children and families facing various forms of neurodiversity.

Invited to the podcast "Different, but together" broadcast on CNA TV, Velçani said that reducing prejudices regarding these changes that affect brain development is a positive step.

According to the psychologist, an important element is also increasing awareness so that parents can make the decision to have their children start the type of treatment and therapy they need as early as possible.

"Currently, prejudices are weaker. A few years ago they were quite pronounced. People did not like to find out that the child was receiving treatment, was doing therapy or was going somewhere to treat speech. The delay in starting treatment is related to the parent's refusal to accept that there is something wrong and that it is not functioning as it should. There is also finding comfort, saying that the uncle, the aunt, spoke a little later. I think these ideas are still present despite the very good work that various professionals are doing in terms of awareness," the psychologist said. /CNA
