Today, the next hearing was held at the Criminal Court for the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, who is facing 13 charges for 5 serious offenses.

Like a coward, he did not appear in the courtroom again to face the facts and evidence with which he was caught in corruption, abuse of office, laundering the proceeds of crime, hiding wealth, and bringing illegal items into the cell.

The defendant lawyer in the GJKKO charged by SPAK, Plarent Ndreca, the lawyer of the other defendant Erion Veliaj, stated during today's session that 24 digital files have not yet been made available to the defense.

According to the defendant's lawyer Plarent Ndreca, the decision to familiarize himself with the acts has not been implemented.

"The trial court, before the case was divided, ordered that Veliaj be acquainted with all the acts. This decision has not been implemented. Neither I nor Veliaj have access to the evidence, we still do not have copies. This time, until the next session, should be used to make the digital evidence available to us," said Plarent Ndreca, among other things.

In fact, this is nothing more than a lie and an excuse to delay legal proceedings.

The investigative file documents have been made available to Veliaj and his defense for months.

Initially, they were made available electronically, but they requested printed copies. The court granted their request and the materials were provided in printed form.

What happens now?

They have the investigative files in their hands and say that 24 files are missing.

In fact, those 24 files, as clearly understood from the positions of the defendant's lawyer Plarent Ndreca, are the acts that were given to the other parties.

Now they are demanding that the acts that were given to the other defendants be printed again and given to defendant Erion Veliaj, who is being defended by defendant Plarent Ndreca.

To the knowledge of the defendant in the GJKKO with charges from SPAK, who also acts as Veliaj's lawyer, Plarent Ndreca, on July 24, 2025, the mayor's lawyers received the investigative materials.

On July 24, they received them on a USB, in digital form, and for months they have been requesting to have these materials printed, claiming that they had no way of reading them, and the defendant had no way of accessing them. They now have the investigative materials both in digital and printed form.

Erion Veliaj has the materials, his previous lawyers have also received them, as the mayor has invented the tactic of changing lawyers as an excuse to drag out the legal proceedings.

He has changed lawyers, starting with Ermir Beta, Artur Selmani, Artan Gjermëni, Valentina Teodorescu, and finally the defendant Plarent Ndreca, not to mention the lobbying law firm, etc.

As a result, Plarent Ndreca's claims are absurd.

These are simply tactics, machinations, and excuses made to endlessly postpone and drag out court hearings./ CNA
