A protest in support of Albanian students in North Macedonia, who are demanding that the bar exam be held in Albanian, will be held this afternoon at Skanderbeg Square in Tirana.

"Albanianism is with Skopje"/ Protest in Tirana in support of Albanian

"Our voice will not stop, just as our uncompromising demand for the implementation of the Constitution and the Law on the Use of Languages ??will not stop either. On May 26, we will gather in Tirana at 5:00 PM and after that in Pristina, and then, together as the 'uneducated' we are called, we will return to Skopje again, this time before the Government that arrogantly violates our rights. We will not retreat. We will not remain silent. The Albanian language is not negotiable," announced a few days ago one of the organizers of the protest, Mevlan Ademi, through a reaction on social networks.

We recall that on May 18, Albanian students in North Macedonia held the second protest in Skopje for the Albanian language, where thousands of students from all Albanian regions were present.

Students have demanded the resignation of the Minister of Justice in North Macedonia. The protest comes as an expression of the students' revolt after the rejection of their request by the current Minister of Justice, Igor Filkov.

According to the Law on the Bar Exam in North Macedonia, there is no restriction that requires the exam to be taken only in Macedonian. The Law on the Use of Languages, adopted in 2019, obliges state institutions to allow the use of Albanian if at least 20% of citizens speak this language.

Article 2 and Article 5 of this law clearly stipulate that state institutions and courts must enable the use of the Albanian language in all official procedures. /CNA
