Here's why the competition for police chiefs has opened in 4 districts

The competition for the leadership of the Local Directorates of the State Police will take place in four regions of the country, where they are currently headed by commissioned directors. In addition to the Tirana Local Police Directorate, which will elect its leader after the resignation of Elton Alush, a competition will also take place in the Fier, Durrës and Kukës Police Directorates.

More specifically, the Fier Local Police Directorate is currently commanded by Erion Ahmeti, who was commanded to this position after the appointment of Skënder Hita as General Director of the State Police. Prior to his appointment as head of the State Police, Hita held the position of director of the Fier Local Police Directorate.

The race has also opened at the Durrës Local Police Directorate, where Ervin Hodaj is currently the acting director. CNA has learned that Hodaj is one of the names expected to compete for the position of head of the Tirana Police.

We recall that Ervin Hodaj was appointed to the position of Director of the Durrës Police after the dismissal of Afrim Tafa. The decision was made by Director General Skënder Hita after the tragic accident in Durrës that occurred on May 3, where two minors lost their lives.


The competition for police chief will also take place in the Kukes Local Directorate. The position remained vacant after the resignation of the chief, Loard Sallaku, in April of this year.

Earlier today, the names expected to run for leadership in Local Police Directorates where there are vacancies were published.
