Democratic Party MP Belind Këlliçi has reacted to the tragic event that occurred in Durrës yesterday.

In his response, Këlliçi describes the incident as a crime that could have been prevented, as if the links had worked properly, the perpetrator would not have been allowed to drive the car.

Këlliçi writes that the perpetrator of the tragic accident was known as problematic, but was tolerated by the authorities.

It was not an accident, but a crime that could have been prevented!

The entire country is stunned by the shock caused yesterday in Durrës by a drunk driver who took the lives of two children and the third is in hospital in critical condition.

Society has massively condemned the perpetrator and an appeal for a change to the Highway Code is being made.

Personally, I support any initiative that will lead to the strengthening of the penal code. And also, awareness is needed every day.

But in this moment of reflection, we need to analyze and say it openly. It was not an accident, it was not a fatality, but what happened in a neighborhood in Durrës was a crime that could have been prevented!

The person was known to be problematic, he was known to get behind the wheel drunk. But he was tolerated. And of course this is not the first case.

If the state links were functioning, if the police were doing their job properly, the perpetrator probably wouldn't be driving the car, the incident would be avoided. Albania should be at this basic level of security today. Let's not go with the idea, there's nothing you can do about it, things like this happen.

When it comes to difficult moments like these, before tragic developments, it turns out that we are always unprepared. That state that is propagated and presented to us with pride, suddenly does not exist.

When a fire consumes a building complex, when roads collapse, when people lose their lives in collisions, when floods or strong natural phenomena occur.

We have seen the police fail to catch wanted persons when everyone knows they are free and roaming around.

The only time when the state shines, reaches the top, with equipment, organization, and efficiency, is when it lines up in echelons of force against the Opposition.

If the police showed the same dedication they have in guarding Edi Rama's chair, both for road safety and for the protection of citizens, tragedies like the one in Durrës would not happen!
