Construction of the Vorë-Hani i Hoti railway, the tender for the 356

The Albanian Railway opened the tender for the construction of the Vorë-Hani i Hoti railway and a number of its complementary elements in the procurement system of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on Wednesday of this week.

Specifically, the object of the contract is "Construction of the railway section Vorë - Hani i Hoti railway, including civil works and the sound system for signalling, telecommunications".

In the details of the procedure, it is stated that it will be developed in two phases and that which has just been opened is the first phase of the invitation for pre-qualification by interested entities to be implementers of this project. The closing date for this first phase of the call for prequalification is January 24, 2025.

Earlier at the end of last year, the Railway opened the procedure related to the project design of this railway segment that by the end of summer completed its first phase of pre-qualification of some of the interested companies that had shown interest.

The total cost of the project is around 356 million euros, as it will be co-financed by a number of international financial institutions, where our country has requested loans.

Thus, 98.7 million euros are loans from the EBRD and another 100 million euros from the European Investment Bank. Added to this is a 133 million euro investment grant from the European Union as well as budget funds. The project aims to rehabilitate and build 120 kilometers of railway line.

The project is part of the extension of the Trans-European Main Transport Network TEN-T in the Western Balkans, which will connect Albania to the regional and European railway networks through the pan-European Corridor X.

The Vorë-Hani Hotit railway passes through seven municipalities and crosses the Western Lowlands of Albania, running from South to North. The railway connects the urban centers of Vora, Mamurras, Laç, Milot, Lezha, Shkodra and Koplik.

It crosses the Albania/Montenegro state border at Hani e Hoti (km 140). According to the administrative division, the railway crosses the territories of seven municipalities (Vorë, Krujë, Kurbin, Lezhë, Vau Dejës, Shkodër and Malësi e Madhe)./ Monitor Magazine
