Nancy VanHorn, in the Constitution/Meeting with the judges and Holta

The body of judges of the Constitutional Court, headed by the President of this Court, Holta Zaçaj, held a meeting today with the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the United States of America in Albania, Nancy VanHorn.

The latter was accompanied at this meeting by Mary Kate Butterfield and David Backman, resident legal advisers at the Embassy.

Zaçaj mentioned some of the steps taken regarding transparency and informing the public about the activities of the Constitutional Court institution, with the aim of not only increasing the reputation and credibility of this institution, but also making its decisions understandable by the general public.

"Emphasizing the important role played by the Constitutional Court, as one of the highest institutions in the state hierarchy, as well as the importance of the impartiality and integrity of judges in the proper fulfillment of its Constitutional mission, the parties at the meeting expressed their commitment to finding support and cooperation mechanisms for increasing capacities and improving infrastructure, in function of increasing institutional independence, guaranteeing the protection of the fundamental rights and freedoms of the individual, strengthening democracy and the rule of law," the announcement of the Constitutional Court states. ./ CNA
