The Vjosa River, part of the world's natural resources?/ This is when

On Monday, Albania submitted to UNESCO the request for the inclusion of the "Vjosa" River National Park in the world's natural resources in the "Man and Biosphere" program.

The application is expected to be considered at the next meeting of the World Heritage Committee next year.

The Vjosa River, known as one of the last wild rivers in Europe, was declared a "National Park" by the Albanian government in March last year after several years of efforts by Albanian and international environmental organizations to protect this river from the construction of hydropower dams.

The Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumabro, said that the file contained a well-coordinated work of the Albanian authorities with the experts of UNESCO and the International Union for the Protection of Nature, which goes in parallel with the approval of the Integrated Management Plan for Visitors of Vjosa.

The Vjosa River is among the largest rivers in Albania, especially in terms of numerous water flows.

With a length of 272 km, the Vjosa flows from the Pindis mountains in Greece and crosses the Albanian territory until it flows into the Adriatic.

In the lower part, the Vjosa river continues to be endangered by the constructions for the purpose of mass tourism.

About 40 Albanian and foreign naturalists asked the Albanian government in April of this year to include the Vjosa River Delta in the Vjosa National Park and stop the vision for mass tourism projects./ VOA
