American Embassy in Tirana

The American Embassy in Tirana has reacted regarding the fraud scheme with the educational program, which promised free trips to the United States for teachers and students.

The US embassy says the 20-year-old with the initials EH who set up the scheme produced documents bearing the stamps and names of embassy officials.

Also, the embassy thanks the State Police and the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana for the 6-month investigations that revealed the fraud.

"The US Embassy thanks the State Police and the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana and congratulates them for their cooperation with the International Criminal Investigation Unit of the Diplomatic Security Service. The International Criminal Investigation Unit and the State Police Criminal Investigation Department have a special unit that conducts joint investigations. A six-month investigation by this special unit culminated in the arrest yesterday of an individual who fraudulently presented programs as affiliated with the embassy and produced documents bearing the seals and names of embassy officials. The embassy thanks the Director General of the State Police Muhamet Rrumbullaku, the Director of the Criminal Police Neritan Nallbati, the head of the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana Arenc Çela, the prosecutor of the case Eloida Goxhi and the dedicated officers of the State Police for the help given in this matter", it is said in statement./ CNA
