Agreements with Italy/ Vengu: We will use Artificial Intelligence for emergency

Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, shared this evening details regarding the agreements signed with the Italian government two days ago in Rome, some of them related to the field of defense, military industry and civil protection.

Invited to Euronews, Vengu said that the company "KAYO" and the Italian "Fincantieri" will establish a joint company to produce naval vessels not only for Albania, but also for third countries.

The Minister also spoke about the inclusion of Artificial Intelligence in the Armed Forces' systems, stating that the purpose of using Italian technology is to assist not only in responding but also in preventing and predicting emergencies.

"The company "KAYO" and the Italian "Fincantieri" will establish a joint company. Both countries will be shareholders. This company will not only produce naval vessels for us. We aim to have a production for third countries as well. And the great achievement of this negotiation was the production for third countries initially. In this shipyard, Albania will have the opportunity to maintain its fleet. The employment offered will be qualitative and comprehensive.

The Armed Forces have begun to use Artificial Intelligence in a good part of the systems where we operate. The novelty of the agreement with Italy is more in the field of civil protection, where we aim to work with leading companies in the field of cyber protection, alerting and management of civil emergencies. After a successful implementation of this system in Italy, we can benefit and implement it in our country.

The civil protection agreement was a very important one because it gives us the opportunity to have this project financed by Italy to have a territorial control system, where satellite systems and alerting systems for municipalities and the population interact, in emergency cases. We are introducing technology into emergency management. This is the purpose of using Artificial Intelligence and Italian technology in our systems. Not to be only a reactive force but also a preventive, predictive one" , said Vengu. /CNA
