Agreement with Albania/ Meloni: We will not withdraw

The Italian government will abandon the implementation of the agreement with Albania for immigrants, despite the fact that on Monday, the Court of Rome returned for the second time the asylum seekers brought to the Gjadri camp by the Italian military ship Libra, on Friday.

The Italian newspaper "La Stampa" quotes Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who says that the judges are trying to tire the government with successive decisions that prevent the implementation of the agreement. However, Rome's head of government insists she will continue to implement it.

In the same line, also Deputy Prime Minister Mateo Salvini, who says that the Italian government has the duty to find solutions to protect Italian citizens and will continue to do so.

The other daily Corriere della Sera writes that the Italian government is preparing the defense to send the decisions of the Court of Rome on this case to the Supreme Court.

Sources close to the government tell this daily that one of the arguments with which the defense is being prepared is that the use of the opinion of the European Court of Justice that countries such as Egypt or Bangladesh are not safe countries of origin, cannot be taken as a reference for this case. .

According to the government, this decision came before the agreement in principle among the countries of the European Union for a regulation that accelerates the deportation procedures of those who do not deserve asylum, while Italy is the first to implement it, through the project for centers for asylum seekers in Albania .

The opposition Democratic Party welcomed the decision of the Court of Rome, saying that the judges only did their duty.

While the General Secretary of the Italian National Association of Judges, Salvatore Kasharo, said that the courts in Italy have the duty to react when they find a violation of the rights of the European Union, and the Court of Rome also decided in this regard./ CNA
