The General Directorate of Prisons has reacted after the video published by journalist Flamur Vezaj, which showed well-known characters from the criminal world with cell phones and celebrating with alcohol and narcotics.

In the response, it is announced that the people in the video have been identified and it turns out that some of them were released or transferred before January 2026. It is also further stated that after the video was circulated, an investigation has been launched that includes all the characters, as well as a complete verification of the chain of command at the Durrës Penitentiary Institution.

Meanwhile, it is added that following the controls carried out during April, surprise and detailed controls were carried out today in several institutions. In Durrës prison, it is reported that 3 phones belonging to the persons who appear in the video were seized.

Regarding the video published on social networks by journalist Flamur Vezaj, we clarify as follows:

First, we thank the journalist for the information made public and encourage every citizen or journalist to denounce any illegal act or violation that violates security in penitentiary institutions.

Secondly, we clarify that the people shown in the video have been identified by our structures and it turns out that some of them were released or transferred before January 2026.

Immediately after the video was circulated, the Internal Control Service of the Prison System was notified and procedures for a full investigation have been initiated. The investigation includes all persons identified in the video, as well as a full verification of the chain of command at the Durrës Penitentiary Institution, in order to determine responsibilities at every level. In parallel, the structures of the Durrës Penitentiary Institution continue intensive controls in order to fully identify responsibilities and initiate criminal cases for the persons involved.

The current situation is not what is shown in the video. The controls have been intensified and continue uninterrupted. Following the controls carried out during April, today surprise and detailed controls were carried out in several institutions.

At the Durrës Penitentiary Institution, 3 mobile phones were caught red-handed and seized. The owners of these devices are among the people identified in the video. Immediate measures have been taken against them, including placing them in isolation and criminal proceedings.

The General Directorate of Prisons does not tolerate any violations. Each case is treated with concrete measures, individual responsibility and criminal prosecution.

The message is clear: security is not negotiable. Any violation will be dealt with without compromise and control in penitentiary institutions will continue to be strengthened every day. / CNA
