The number of employed people is increasing / Young people amidst uncertainties

Our country has recorded employment growth, creating more jobs than a decade ago, however many of them remain seasonal, insecure and with wages that do not keep pace with price increases.

During the first quarter of 2026, around 13,800 new jobs were created, while the unemployment rate dropped to around 8.1-8.3%.

However, young people face a job market that requires entry-level experience, digital skills, foreign languages, and high professional flexibility.

For many of them, entering the labor market has become a prolonged transition between internships, temporary contracts, and jobs with frequent rotation.

This situation has created a new social phenomenon, where young people are statistically employed, but economically remain insecure. The increase in the cost of living, especially in Tirana, has meant that many of them, even though they work, are unable to save or create long-term stability.

The youth employment rate is around 46%, while the rest remain outside the active labor market, mainly due to lack of opportunities and mismatch with education.

Analyses show that one of the main challenges of the Albanian economy remains the weak link between education and the labor market, as the education system continues to produce more diplomas than practical skills. /CNA
