Albania and Kosovo lift border controls for the summer

Albania and Kosovo have restored free passage for vehicles with license plates from both countries as of May 1, significantly easing border movement until September 30.

According to this decision, Albanian citizens and Kosovo Albanians will cross without stops and without standard controls at land border points, especially at the busiest Morinë–Vërmicë point.

Meanwhile, vehicles with foreign license plates will only be subject to quick checks to avoid delays and queues, especially during the summer tourist season.

The measures come after a two-month period with full border controls, while a more relaxed regime was maintained on weekends and holidays.

Authorities say this cooperation aims to facilitate the movement of citizens, promote tourism and strengthen economic ties between the two countries, especially during the summer months when the flow of travelers increases significantly./ CNA
