Speech therapist recounts painful case: 4-year-old girl heard for the first time

Speech therapist Evis Gazheli shared today in the episode of the podcast 'Different, but together' a difficult case of a child who regained his hearing.

As Gazheli explained, this is a case from the early 2000s, when a 4-year-old girl recovered her sense of hearing through a cochlear implant.

The speech therapist said that the programming of this surgically placed device made it possible to recover a very important element in everyday life, hearing real sounds and noises without any obstacles.

"There are many cases, not just one. In so many years of experience, the cases are different. I cannot share them because they are many, but I would single them out. In the years 1999-2000, I treated a case with a cochlear implant. After specialization, I was referred to a case that I followed with a child, a 4-year-old girl who had never heard. When the audiologist was programming the device after the operation, her joy was indescribable. She was delighted with the noises. It has been among the most successful cases and today she is over 25 years old and a mother. The sooner it is done, the better. Because it helps the child get used to real, ambient noises, different sounds and words", - said Gazheli. /CNA
