In today's episode of the podcast "Different, but together" on CNA TV, speech therapist and deputy director of the Institute for Deaf Students, Evis Gazheli, was invited.

Speaking about children with hearing impairments, speech therapist Gazheli said that hearing loss in children is of various types, in some cases temporary and in other cases permanent.

Regarding permanent hearing loss, Gazheli indicated that it can come from a number of causes, one of which is genetics, where it can be inherited from parents to children.

Hearing loss, said the speech therapist, also affects the child's speech because by not hearing, he is unable to imitate or stutter.

 

" For children with hearing impairments, there is no different curriculum than what regular schools do. We are different, but equal. Auditory disorders or hearing loss are of several types, temporary ones that can come from different causes. We also have sensory or nerve losses, which is permanent loss. These cases can be congenital, there have been cases that have been inherited from parent to child.

"If the hearing loss is profound, cochlear implantation is the way to go. Hearing greatly affects speech, because the child cannot hear sounds. He is no longer able to stutter or imitate ," said Evis Gazheli.
