Three historic decisions from the Strasbourg Court for Albanian magistrates

Former Minister of Justice, Eduard Halimi, expressed through a reaction that the Strasbourg Court has today issued three historic decisions for Albanian magistrates.

More specifically, the European Court of Human Rights has issued decisions on the cases: Osmani v. Albania (no. 7780/20), Kadana v. Albania (no. 50295/20) and Elezi v. Albania (no. 17141/21).

Halimi writes that the Strasbourg Court has found a flagrant violation of Article 8 of the Convention regarding vetting dismissals and has requested a review of the procedures and a return to the system.

Meanwhile, it is stated that the three magistrates had their careers built with hard work, dedication, and great sacrifices unfairly interrupted.

3 HISTORIC DECISIONS TODAY FROM STRASBOURG FOR ALBANIAN MAGISTRATES
Today, June 23, 2026, the European Court of Human Rights (Third Section) has issued decisions in the cases:

- Osman v. Albania (no. 7780/20),

- Kadana v. Albania (no. 50295/20)

- Elezi v. Albania (no. 17141/21).

Strasbourg finds a flagrant violation of Article 8 of the Convention regarding the vetting dismissals, as they were not proportionate.

The court requests a review of the procedures and a return to the system.

My sincerest congratulations to the three magistrates whose careers built with hard work, dedication, and great sacrifices were unjustly cut short.

Now it is the turn of the Constitutional Court to impose justice, restore their dignity, and guarantee the implementation of European standards.

Those who publicly anathematized and lynched them have the minimum moral duty to apologize to them and their families. /CNA
