The spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry, Martin Giese, has commented on the protests that have been taking place for more than three weeks in Tirana.

Asked by DW, Giese said at a press conference that he is aware of the protests that he says are taking place against a project.

He stressed that people have the right to protest, but also added that this is an internal political issue in Albania.

Deutsche Welle:  Is the German government in contact with protesters in Albania? Does Berlin know what they are asking for? And what does it expect from Edi Rama's government in relation to the protests?

German Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Giese:  I have taken note of the reports about this. It is a project against which there are protests.

Of course, people in Albania have the right to protest. But this is an internal political issue in Albania. We cannot give much information about this.

We remind you that today is the 24th protest against the government on the "Martyrs of the Nation" boulevard. For more than three weeks, citizens have been protesting demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. /CNA
