Former Minister Ylli Pango appeared before the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime to give his testimony regarding the investigations into the privatization of the former “Partizani” sports complex. During the hearing, Pango stated that his memory for these issues is limited due to the wide volume of duties he covered.

Pango explained that during the period when he headed the relevant department, four different sectors were subordinate to him, including cultural heritage and sports structures. According to him, in the first meetings of the government at that time, the acceleration of the privatization process was requested, but he denied knowing any specific details about the “Partizani” complex.

"I will only speak about what I remember. I covered four sectors and I cannot remember the procedures 18 years later," Pango stated, adding that his main focus at the time was on tourism and cultural heritage.

The former minister admitted that he had general knowledge of the condition of the complex, stating that he had grown up in that neighborhood and knew that some parts of the territory were occupied. He recalled that the former sports director, Violeta Shqevi, had mentioned the issue of the territory being fenced off, but stressed that he did not remember whether she had taken any concrete legal steps regarding this letter.

Regarding the figures involved in the process, Pango said that he had only recently heard the name of Afrim Tola, while emphasizing that there were no problems influenced by sports during the exercise of his duties.

"My logic is that a minister with so many responsibilities cannot remember the details of every property or the registration status of every association," Pango said./ CNA
