Protests in the country/ Swiss Ambassador: Important element of any system

The Swiss Ambassador to Albania, Ruth Huber, visited Korça as part of the opening of the photographic exhibition dedicated to the Swiss photographer Eugène Pittard, who at the beginning of the 20th century documented Albanian life, traditions and culture through his camera.

During her stay in the city, the ambassador held a meeting with the mayor of Korça, where issues of cooperation and relations between the two countries were discussed. During her visit to Korça, Ambassador Huber was also asked about the protests taking place in Tirana and several cities in the country, as well as her message to Albanian institutions.

She stated that this is a political issue, on which a foreign embassy should be careful in its stances, but underlined the importance of democracy, civic participation and strengthening institutions.

 

" This is a very political question and it is difficult to answer as a foreign embassy. Of course, through our development program we also strengthen democracy, with our support to the national parliament, to local parliaments. We have a long-term support for civil society, so democratic instruments and people's participation are an important element of any system, just like in our system in Switzerland ," said Ambassador Huber.

 

The ambassador's visit to Korça comes within the framework of promoting cultural ties between Albania and Switzerland, while Pittard's photography exhibition serves as a bridge between the historical past and the shared interest in the cultural heritage of both countries.
