The Tirana Court has returned the lawsuit of Mereme Sela, who was denied candidacy in the race for the leadership of the Democratic Party, for correction.

"Regarding the interest shown by some journalists, we are referring to the official information provided by the judge in the case, as follows: In the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Tirana, Civil Chamber, on 06.05.2026, a request was filed with Plaintiff Mereme Sela with the subject:

“1. Declaring the decision to disqualify the plaintiff from the race for President of the Democratic Party of Albania as absolutely invalid;

2. Obligation of the defendant to reinstate the plaintiff in the competition;

3. Declaring Sali Berisha's candidacy absolutely invalid;

4. Finding of a serious violation of the statute and principles of internal democracy;

5. Establishing a precautionary measure for the lawsuit: immediate suspension of the electoral process of 23.05.2026 until the conclusion of the trial.

The court has reviewed the submitted request within the legal deadline, has studied and evaluated the submitted acts and has finally decided: "The return of the defective acts, which belong to the claim, giving the plaintiff the right to appeal to the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction of Tirana, according to the legal provisions", the court's announcement states./ CNA
