The US Embassy in Tirana has given its message after the inauguration of the NATO air base in Kuçovo, calling it a milestone that illustrates Albania's unwavering commitment to NATO principles to protect peace, freedom and democracy.

The Chargé d'Affaires at the American Embassy, ??David Wisner, has praised Albania's commitment to the modernization of the army and the fulfillment of NATO's essential defense commitments, as a shield of stability in the Western Balkans.

"Congratulations to Albania for the inauguration of the first NATO airbase in the Western Balkans. This milestone illustrates Albania's unwavering commitment to NATO principles to protect peace, freedom and democracy by countering threats through prevention and defense.

Charge d'Affaires David Wisner joined President Bajram Begaj, Speaker of the Assembly Lindita Nikolla, Prime Minister Edi Rama, Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi and other Albanian and NATO officials during the opening ceremony today in Kuçovo.
