SPAK's investigations into Tirana's incinerator/ Veliaj's

The incinerator of Tirana, which is one of the most sensational cases of corruption that has led to the imprisonment of high-ranking officials and the former ministry, while others are under investigation, while SPAK has described those involved in the affair as a structured criminal group.

On December 13, 2024, GJKKO accepted SPAK's request for the transfer of the file for trial for 12 people for the Tirana incinerator. They are accused of 'money laundering' and 'structured criminal group'.

Only three of the defendants have requested a shortened trial, namely Silena Tola, Alba Thoma and Pëllumb Abeshi, while the rest have requested the normal trial procedure.

On August 2, 2024, the Special Prosecutor's Office officially announced the closure of the investigations for 12 accused persons, under suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of "abuse of duty".

The measures for the incinerator were issued in December 2023, while the former Minister of Environment Lefter Koka, Pëllumb Abeshi, Erjon Murataj, Bledar Karoli, Taulant Tusha, Namik Simixhiu, Etleva Kondi, Alba Tboma, Valbona Ballgjini, Sidita Kopliku, Jetmir Llapaj and Silena Tola.

For the incinerator of Tirana, the former socialist deputy Alqi Blako, at the same time Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment, has separated himself. This is because Blako is being investigated for another charge, that of corruption.

THE INVOLVEMENT OF ERION VELIAJT IN THE APPROACH

The opposition has asked the SPAK to put the mayor Erion Veliaj behind bars for this affair, whom he considers to be the main person responsible for the fact that the money of the Albanians is stolen to this day for a non-existent project.

The political leader of the PD for the region of Tirana, Belind Kelliçi, one of the loudest democrats against the incinerator affair, has often denounced the mayor regarding his involvement in this matter.

He has also published a video on social networks, specifically on December 17, 2023, of Veliaj, which appears in 3 different moments as he speaks contradictorily about the Tirana incinerator.

"I did it the first time," he says. The second time was done by the ancestor. The government did it the third time. The truth is actually one. The initiator and researcher of Tirana's incinerator is Erion Veliaj himself", says Kelliçi as he also publishes Veliaj's speech in 3 times.

Meanwhile, CNA has exclusively revealed the connections of the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, which go to partnerships with Russian companies and incinerators. The mayor, in addition to the incinerator affair, is under investigation by SPAK for a number of other issues, including the 5D file, the demolition of the National Theater, the demolition of the apartments on May 5, and a property investigation is being conducted against him and his family members. , including his wife Ajola Xoxa and brother Arbë Veliaj.

The latter are accused of having benefited from public funds of the Municipality of Tirana, with the blessing of the mayor Errion Veliaj. As the investigations continue, it is precisely the Special Prosecutor's Office that will have the last word on how far Veliaj's involvement goes and how much damage it has caused to the pockets of the citizens of Tirana./ CNA
