The President of the European Commission, Ursula Von Der Leyen, has called the opening of negotiations for Albania and North Macedonia a historic moment.

In front of the media, Der Leyen said that both countries deserved it, as they fulfilled the required conditions.

"This is a historic moment, today Albania and North Macedonia have opened negotiations for EU accession and I am very happy to be here with you. This is your success, yours as a government and your citizens. You've worked so hard to get this far. You have made changes, not only where they are mandatory for the path to the EU, but because they are good for your country. These reforms are giving a better quality of life", she said. /CNA.al
